WWE Summerslam 2011 Review, Replay, Highlights
08/14/2011 (August 14 2011)
Los Angeles, California,Staples Center
It’s the biggest WWE PPV of the summer, headlined by a John Cena vs CM Punk, Champion vs Champion.
Adam Jones, guitarist for the band “Tool”, opens with a guitar solo of the American national anthem to kick off the PPV.
6 Men Tag Team Match
Kofi Kingston, John Morrison & The Miz defeated Rey Mysterio Jr., R-Truth & Alberto Del Rio.

Rey Mysterio finish the match with Frog Splash against R-Truth to score the win.
Rating: **1/2. A fun opener that got the crowd going, with Kofi Kingston and Rey Mysterio looking particularly impressive and providing the WWE Summerslam 2011 highlights reel moments.
Backstage John Lauriniatis and CM Punk talk as the WWE Vice President of Talent Relations want CM Punk to apologize for the kick last week, which CM Punk apology for with great sarcasm. Lauriniatis leaves and Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley wants to speak to CM Punk and wish him good luck.

Stpehanie Mcmahon offer a handshake CM Punk who is very skeptical and says that he knew where that hand had been before walking off. Funny line to end this rather lame segment.
Singles Match
Mark Henry defeated Sheamus via count out, after he hurled Sheamus into the ringside barricade.
Rating: **. Decent match with a memorable ending (WWE Summerslam 2011 Highlights Reel worthy), which will likely set up a rematch down the road.

Christian is interviewed backstage, and promises that in today’s match everything was possible as he had an insurance policy. While he was technically a box office movie like Harry Potter, Randy Orton was just like “Cowboys and Aliens.”, overrated and overproduced.
Cee-Lo Green sings a medley from the current live Summerslam 2011 Theme song and his hit single “Forget You” as he is accompanied by some dancing WWE divas (Alicia Fox, Rosa Mendes, Bella twins). This went for around 5 minutes and the crowd was dead for the most part.
WWE Divas Title Match
Kelly Kelly (/ with Eve Torres) (c) vs Beth Phoenix (/ with Natalya Neidhart) with a roll up from the Glam Slam attempt by Phoenix.
Rating:**, this was better than expected and the match got a decent amount of time. Kelly Kelly got the surprise win to retain the title.
It looks like Stephanie McMahon comes out from the locker room of John Cena.
R-Truth speaks backstage again about a possible conspiracy when WWE legend/manager Jimmy Hart offers his support. R-Truth seems to show interest initially, but notes that it is hard for a “Little Jimmy” and that causes him to turn down the idea and continue acting wild. The camera shows LA Lakers star Ron Artest watching this happening with his daughter.
Singles Match
Wade Barrett defeated Daniel Bryan for the Wasteland.
Rating: ***1/2. The finish surprise me but I guess we will be getting an extended feud from the two. The commentary was terrible during this match as both guys worked a solid bout. Daniel Bryan striking were very impressive here.

Christian comes out and says in a promo that he always keep his promises, he has his best friend, now in his corner to support him: Rated R Superstar Edge returns Summerslam 2011. Amid great jubilation of the fans, Edge (with new shorter hair) come to the ring.
After a short embrace with Christian, Edge reaches the microphone, and cut a promo about the fact that Christian only regain the title by DQ and he was disappointed that his best friend had become a moaning whining crybaby. Without wasting more words, Edge leaves the ring. Christian is angry in the ring, while now the challenger Randy Orton enters the ring,
World Heavyweight Title No Holds Barred Match
Randy Orton defeated Christian (c) after the RKO on a steel staircase. —> TITLE CHANGE. Randy Orton Wins World Championship T`itle Summerslam 2011.

Rating: ****1/2. Another Match of the year candidate with this being the best of the Christian/Randy Orton series so far. They used the weapons spot nicely, although it’s hard to see Christian losing again after a short title run. Catch the WWE Summerslam 2011 replay for this match.
Backstage the camera captures how Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley was talking to the special referee for the main event, her husband Triple H.
Undisputed WWE Championship Match (Special Guest Referee: Triple H)
CM Punk (c) defeated John Cena after the Go 2 Sleep. However Cena obviously had a leg up on the ropes.
Rating: ****1/2 . Another classic match between John Cena and CM Punk. The Macho Man chants was a classic moment, but i did not like the weak ending with the foot on the ropes. Crowd was very into this match and mostly pro CM Punk. I thought this match was better than the one at Money in the Bank PPV, but the ending was not as good.

John Cena explains to Triple H about his foot being on the ropes during the count but Triple H deny witnessing it. Cena leaves and Triple H raise CM Punk hand and pass him the WWE Championship.
While Punk celebrates, Kevin Nash appear and return at Summerslam 2011 to attack CM Punk with a powerbomb. Punk is knocked out as Alberto Del Rio cashes in Money in the Bank (MITB) briefcase to bring a frantic ending to Summerslam 2011.
Undisputed WWE Championship Match
Alberto Del Rio defeated CM Punk (c) after a kick to the head (Shining Wizard). —> TITLE CHANGE
Wild ending for Summerslam 2011, Alberto Del Rio NEW WWE Champion.
Overall WWE Summerslam 2011 Review Score: 8 out of 10.

The PPV delivered with two MOTY candidates World title matches, which means the main events definitely delivered. The opener was solid and the midcard was pretty decent.
It will be interesting to see what WWE has planned for Monday Night Raw, as we will find out why Kevin Nash attacked CM Punk, what does Triple H do when he realize that he screwed John Cena out of the WWE Title, and of course we also saw Stephanie Mcmahon returning at Summerslam 2011.
Overall, a very good PPV that is worth buying the WWE Summerslam 2011 DVD/Blu Ray or watching the WWE Summerslam 2011 replay if you missed the PPV.
